We’re doing family Thanksgiving on Saturday, but I wanted to run up to the cabin today to hang out with my brother – it’s my 1st Thanksgiving home in probably 17 years, and his first without his babies since they were born. So. We trekked in with a big pot of chili and cornbread, sat by the fire, split wood, chatted. So grateful to be back around my family. And my new goal in life is to become a champion wood splitter. I’m serious.

Clementine

After a long rambling drive to run errands, a stop in cozy hippie bookshop/cafe, and a mountain pass that still had drifts of snow, I finally stopped by Clementine today, a sweet little shop in Middlebury Vermont.

The shop owner Emily came by with her cute cute baby (aaahhh the baby clock!) & it was great to finally meet her, and really lovely to find a shop in VT that is filled with wonderful things from all over. These phone snaps don’t do the shop justice, but hopefully you’ll get an idea of the wonders that await you if you do find yourself up this way!

Annnnnd, I brought one of these Up In The Air Somewhere bowls home with me. Today was definitely a panacea for the total tense crazy clutchiness I’ve felt since the move. Relax, self, you’re safe here and it’s ok. Ok?

first snow

Wake up, wake up! That’s Sean hiding from the very idea of snow, while I run outside immediately. I love it so much, seeing the world frosted makes everything ok, magical. I’m ready to skip Halloween and go straight on to the holidays. Of course, this will all melt by tomorrow. But today, I’m cozying up with some hot cider. (& a to-d0 list a mile long, but somehow the scenery makes it ok.)

We split and stacked wood at the little cabin, drank hot cider from tin mugs, burned brush in a bonfire, and stomped through the stream.

rainy Saturday

It’s turned cold here & fall has truly set in. I find myself questioning my sanity at moving from reasonably warm Northern California to this rainy, bone chilling world, but I’m hoping acclimation kicks in and the trade off of hot cider and cozy sweaters is worth it. We spent a rainy day yesterday with my brother and the babies (so not babies anymore) having art times and going to one of my favorite Vermont museums, the Fairbanks Museum.

The Fairbanks is like the Vermont version of the museum in the Jardin des Plantes in Paris. Ok, it’s totally not, but it was built in 1889 and the building itself is just gorgeous to walk around in. Sean wants to move in, immediately.

& a quick visit to a rainy farm stand, for the last maple creemee of the season.

Today is bundled up on the couch with tea and books while it continues to rain. Finally, a relaxing weekend?
