So we invited Kate and Kali over and I basically ditched all my other food restrictions for the night (gluten is the only 100% have to avoid it one) & we stuffed our faces like kings. California-Italian kings.

Holly made:

Chive blossom, maple uncured bacon, and fig pizza.

Classic red sauce, spinach, zucchini, mozzarella pizza.

Blanco pizza with morels in cream sauce, sage, mozzarella. (this one was !!!!!! the best)

Dulce de leche ice cream with maple caramelized figs and maple whipped cream.

There was also wine and chocolate. I think I crawled into bed rubbing my belly like a buddha.

We’ve mostly been hibernating, still. This Thursday I go in to try to get my crossed eyes fixed. I’m scared of the MRI and I’m scared it’ll mess my eyeballs up more, but I can’t really keep not being able to see. Nerve-wracking!

I’ve been feeling pretty stunned and it’s been hard to get SUPER ACTION POWER on anything on my to do list. Not sure what’s up with that except maybe overwhelm & depression from all the destruction around the world.

We had a pot pie dinner on Friday – best thing in my face, ever. We used this recipe with a gluten-free crust. Diet? What diet?? Cooking & shopping, that’s what I do when stressed and overwhelmed. Good times. Oh! You know what else? We ordered a plain white porcelain dish set! Place settings for 8! I feel grownup – our dishes are a deranged mix of me thrifting weird patterns (see below) and Sean having black IKEA plates left over from college. We made a wedding registry but we don’t have the type of family who do things like use wedding registries, so we’ve been ticking things off on our own. Towels? Pots & pans? Plates? Yes, I got to be 35 years old without having proper place settings. Or um, drinking glasses, as you can see. Next up – cloth napkins. Though paper towels are pretty fetching. My Nana is rolling in her niche, for real.

Hard to see, but that’s snow-hail, on the roof! & it lasted over an hour! It’s so so so so rare here.

Besides her role as people curator in the cosmic hum, she’s a painter, a collector of magic & an antique magnet, a storyteller, a world traveler, a gypsy witch, a whirling dervish, writer, an insomniac oracle, & one of the most cozy lovely amazing ladies you could ever have the luck to meet!! One day we will travel to China, or perhaps I will move to Austin. One never knows.

Yesterday was my sister-in-law’s sister Myra’s wedding, held at the farm that has been in their family for many generations. As a wedding present, I designed, patterned, and sewed her dress, somehow got wrangled into doing her hair and makeup, put together the bridal bouquet from white roses & bits from her grandmother’s garden, and arranged the flowers for the bridal table. Who knew I had a secret one-stop-wedding-shop inside me just waiting to come out?? (And stood in as amateur backup wedding photographer!)

My mother sewed the bridesmaids dresses, as well as the ties & vests for the boys. A very DIY wedding – flowers from the garden gathered into maple sap buckets by the bridesmaids, a potluck meal, a cake made by an aunt, handwritten vows, handbuilt pews (and outhouses!) & a lot of love.

Holly & Michelle met me at Sweet Adeline and we loaded up with coffee and almond tea cakes, hopped in the rental car, and zipped up to warmth and sunshine and hippie cafes and goodness.

Kai’s made a muddy yick into a magical psychedelic wonder feather!

& this actually looks like a fern now, and not a ribbon!!
