spring cleaning

No, really! My mama was here for a quick visit, bringing up some things from my grandparent’s house before it is sold. So we cleaned the clean that can only occur on a bright fresh spring day when one’s mother is coming to one’s house for the first time in 12 years!!! (She doesn’t like to fly.) So, a springtime peek into the Gnomerie!

lrFlowers from the garden, on the entry table.

liveroomgggMy mama brought that rocking chair from my grandparents house. I love rocking chairs, I’m actually a tiny old lady in disguise. Eventually we’ll reupholster that couch. In my free time!

rugThat orchid is a dendrobium kingianum, and smells like heaveennnnn.

dinignDining room, with more flowers from the garden. We only sometimes eat in here, but it’s sunny and lovely in the afternoons.

tulipsFlowers in the bedroom! Sometimes it shocks me how seamlessly our furniture and objects meshed together. A good sign! & yes, having a garden makes me obsessed with having fresh bouquets all the time, it’s so so nice.

bedroomCoziest bed! When we moved, we ended up buying a Keetsa eco-mattress. So so so comfy. We need new pillows, and an actual bedframe/headboard at some point. & that curtain rod bothermakes me, but hey, renting. Wee simple bedroom.

mermaidsMermaids only! An amazing thing about this house is that we each have a bathroom. Unheard of luxury!

outdoorsetA bistro set!!! FINALLY, and then as we set it up it started raining the in the afternoon after a gorgeous sunny morning. Hexes! As much as I’d love a fermob set, we settled on this much much less expensive Crate & Barrel version from the outlet. I can’t wait until it’s sunny again!! Tea & lunches in the sun! Dinner outside once the summer is here…yay!

studioStudio! This back room was tacked on to the house, so it has yucky carpet. I hate carpet with a passion unrivaled. Eventually the rug patchwork will cover it all. Ok, so this doesn’t look clean with that pile of things to work on / sell in the corner, but…

suitcasesFabric storage. Yeah, so the bottom ones are hard to get to! Ok, tiny house tour over! Do you spring clean?

  1. everything in your home looks so lovely! i really couldn’t tell you where your stuff ends and your other’s begins. i think it’s a really great sign that your stuff mixed so well with his stuff.

i am in the midst of spring-cleaning-armageddon! shaner is cutting his hours at work to focus on his music more, so i’ve sacrificed my half of the studio to build myself a makeshift workspace in the hallway! good gravy does it suck! but it’s also going to be better in the long run… i think. no more amps scattered throughout every room of the house! i’ve spent the last two days shifting EVERYTHING in the apartment, and i’m still not done! arghhhhh!

    1. Was that the compromise from not having a living room? You’ll be so happy when it’s done, though, I always walk around a freshly arranged house with a bit of wonder. AND THEN I MESS IT UP!

      Pictures when you’re done!

    1. Thank you! We went pretty crazy when we moved in — the bedroom and studio were DARK BROWN, and my bathroom was GREEN AND PURPLE. No joke. It took so many coats of white paint to turn it into something other than a tiny 1930s cave.

  2. Oh it’s quaint and perfect. I love the interesting little touches it has…the fireplace…the nooks….the ceiling structure. But, the decorative part is spot-on. Coming from a feng shui/cozy Cancerian extraordinaire — I wouldn’t change a thing :p

  3. yes, i have just gone through my house, cleaning, cleaning, cleaning, and sorting, sorting, sorting. it has made me feel SO much happier, clearing away the last vestiges of winter and picking huge bunches of daffodils and putting them into every room.

have you found a home for the tiny bird i sent you?

    1. yes! it’s on the top shelf in the “mermaids only” photo!

ack, i’ve had a box started for you for WEEKS and i’m terrible at deciding something is done and just SENDING it. sigh. i’m glad your spring cleaning is clearing and happymaking!

  4. coo! i don’t see it, but coo! anyway. that mermaids only sign is wonderful.

oooh, now the box sounds promising, i shall await its arrival with much anticipation.
