Can we start 2010 with some good good news? Yes yes yes!
It’s engraved “HFG to Lida Avril 17 1881 Mizpah” Pearls + turquoise + rose gold == the best. We want to do bands in rose gold as well, something handmade and ancient looking.
10-10-2010, we think, a round auspicious date! Piles and piles of inspirations on Tumblr! I promise not to make this a wedding blog – in fact, since I never imagined I’d get married, I don’t want a traditional wedding at all! A weekend in Vermont, tents full of friends & family, bonfires, quilts – hopefully it’ll be not-too-cold and we’ll think of ways to stay cozy. Maybe we’ll build a pavilion with a firepit! Tiny ceremony officiated by Angeliska. Chandeliers from the trees. Stacks of old suitcases as tables. Picnic baskets. Hammocks. Skeleton key chimes. Autumnal wonder. Wildernest!
I’m trying to not look at wedding blogs because they are OUT OF HAND with the perfection and that’s wayyyyy too much pressure, no? We have teeny budget and I don’t have a strong sense of theme, yet.
So, a palette moodboard to keep myself on track and not just randomly turn it into some cacophony of everything I think is pretty.
Yes yes yes! Tiny crowns and luna moth lanterns. Yes yes, 2010 with it’s roundy #’s and round cozy goodness! I’ve been thinking about the last year, and the last decade, and I’ve done so much and accomplished so much, but this finding my person has been quite late in life – when I look around and see people getting married in their early 20s! I guess for whatever reason, this is how it needed to go. So here we are, on the cusp on the next stages of life. Crazy! Magical!

so! exciting!! congratulations & stick with your hibernation from wedding blogs. it is so easy to get sidetracked. i went to a summer wedding that sounds similar. a keg under a tree, jars for beer and iced tea, dancing under fairy lights. i bet it will be magical in vermont!

I’m sure I’ll peek, especially for food/table ideas. But I’m trying to find inspiration elsewhere first. It’s amazing how elaborate and crazy people get!
I’ll be making my own dress and I already have an idea, so that’s somewhat of a relief …or very scary!!

and oh the craziness of magazines. i nearly threw myself out a window when i saw a feature on someone’s wedding that had a theme of little yarn pompom thingies. sounds weird but it was crushingly adorable! gah. so hard to hold onto your vision when twelve visions dance before you. mesmerizing.
can’t wait to see your dress! didn’t you make one last year for someone? experience is good

Yes, for my sister in laws sister! And I’m making one for my tiny wee witchy friend Dori, soon! So that will be good. Mine will be much scrappier and messy, I think.

OH! wonderful. really my heart lifted! many many congratulations, what a beautiful start to the year. and that ring, oh my. made for you, really.
and you know what? a strong sense of theme? i spotted one right here, to my right – your ABOUT column! your theme in 60 words. (or thereabouts, maths is certainly not my strong point).
hurrah!

thank you!! i think you’re right about the theme, i guess i was thinking more in terms of the traditional wedding bloggy themes…not so much “1920s occultists stumble into the woods and decide to have a picnic…”
i’m inspired by this photo of my nana:

i like to think that i’m personally responsible for all this magic.
kidding! but i am just so excited that by extension, this year is already better for me too and everyone that loves you! i am so happy for you.
i have the same thoughts/concept for my wedding, too…down to not being certain that i’ll do it. haha. a. keeps asking again and again and i am just a scaredy cat. i would like something very similar, but maybe in the wilds up here…….
ah, i’m all a mess of excitement!!

also when i was describing what i wanted to do for invites he said “you don’t want invites, you want a press kit.”

Congrats! The ring is amazing as are the ideas for the event! I highly suggest that sort of wedding, we were married in a large outdoor pavilion, down a straw strew isle, under the pine trees.
Later after we ate BBQ and homemade pies from the women in my family, we sat around a bonfire while my new father in-law sang to us.
It was beautiful hard work with my friends and family that we still look back fondly on.

I’m super inspired by the outdoor parties in Tasha Tudor books:

& since my mother will be making the food & cake, and she’s the one who plied me with Tasha Tudor from birth, she’ll be excited…cute!

Congratulations! I think your moodboard is amazing and look forward to seeing the bits you share with us here. Simple weddings are the best! Mine was in October of 2000 and I am happy I kept it simple but island themed since we married on a cruise ship heading for the islands. Light blue, linen, daisies, and simple…perfect for Florida where it’s still balmy in Oct.

She did know, which is something that is comforting to me – at least she knows i’ll be ok? she said “you’re going to make HER settle down?” in her tiny imp voice. I miss her (and cry a lot, still) every day.

Weird, I just saw that photo on Tumblr! I like it – I think I’ll probably help re-make vintage dresses for my ladies? I’m not having bridesmaids so much as a fairy court, haha. They are not the sort of ladies who could be told what to wear!

Congratulations, lady! As a girl with no money who just went through this last year, my heart goes out to you. I had tons of feminist breakdowns before our wedding. I questioned every dated idea, read books on where various traditions came from, and rebelled against all of that nonsense. Even though we made up or own traditions and kept things as simple as possible, it was still a ton of work. There were so many times when I just wanted to elope – but it was so worth it in the end. I can’t even explain the high you’ll get when you see so many friends and family members celebrating love with you. Never think of it as a wedding. Think of it as throwing a love party. That’s actually my best piece of advice to you but I’m sure you already know this.

Congratulations! So, so beautiful the glimpses of inspiration in your moodboard, and that ring! I too am someone who never thought I’d marry (and still can’t see it happening, and can’t imagine finding the Big Love, though have hoped it was that a few times). I have always imagined a fairy-woods romp-music-warm draughts-glowing lights-tents and fall crisp air wedding party, but I am older (early 30s) and as the years pass it seems less and less like I will meet my partner in mischief and love. If you ever feel like sharing the story of how you met the Professor and knew that was it, it would buoy this steelbound heart with the hope of one day magic!

Thank you! I am 34! Do not despair. I did, really, I stopped believing in it, and even when it was VERY obvious that he was my person, I still fought it for a few months because I’d been so jaded!
I will tell the story, hopefully sooner rather than later (fingers crossed!) but right now, for privacy reasons, I cannot! But, hopefully good things are brewing that mean I can spill secrets! Mysterious, I know.
He claims that the minute we met he knew he recognized me, but thought he’d met me before…it took months for us to actually get together. It just became more and more apparent that we were linked!
& a story I mentioned on flickr: we both thought we were married when we met because we’ve both worn a plain silver band on our left ring fingers since high school, randomly. neither of us have ever met anyone else who did.

I love that he recognized you, and the story of the plain silver bands! How exquisite and happy that you have found your person, and that the links unraveled and revealed themselves.
Thank you for the kind words to not despair!
