I’ve already posted my love of handmade houses, and so many of them are made of salvage. While the cabin I’m building does have some new materials for warmth, I am using all salvaged windows and doors, and any fabulous elements I find.
Aurora pointed me to these amazing photos of the home of art director John Holmes, designed by William Kirsch. It’s made entirely from used parts including 85 stained glass windows. Amazing. Who wants to move to the woods with me and start building?

I’m sure you’ve seen the Broken Angel building before, but just in case…

Yes, I had it but unfortunately when I was living in tiny no-heat no-insulation cabin in Vermont in the winter, it was ruined by water damage. I think I linked it in this post?

I grew up in houses like those. To me, they seem like home.
Someday I will build my own, and you are already building yours!

Kai: yay! I wish it wasn’t taking so very long. 2 years so far! Well, 3, really, I bought the land in April 2006!
I’m hoping to go back in June for 2 weeks to really get some work done. We’re down to the point where I can do a lot of it myself, like putting in insulation and getting the floor up in the loft! Once the interior finish work starts happening, it’ll really feel like things are being done!
