rabbit rabbit

Year of the Rabbit, my friends. That is what I am talking about.

People born in the Year of the Rabbit are articulate, talented, and ambitious. They are virtuous, reserved, and have excellent taste. Rabbit people are admired, trusted, and are often financially lucky. They are fond of gossip but are tactful and generally kind. Rabbit people seldom lose their temper. They are clever at business and being conscientious, never back out of a contract. They would make good gamblers for they have the uncanny gift of choosing the right thing. However, they seldom gamble, as they are conservative and wise. They are most compatible with those born in the years of the Sheep, Pig, and Dog. (from here.)

Uh, yeah, right. That is packed with lies in regards to me – except that I married someone born in the year of the Dog. I am tactless, unreserved, have a classic Italian temper, and while I consider myself financially lucky in that I get bailed out from near homelessness by what seems to be magic sometimes, I’ve never actually been financially solvent. I’m closer to the Dragon, which is only a month or so away from my birthdate. Astrology light leaks?

REGARDLESS. I am here to tell you that the year of the Rabbit is going to be awesome. I am basing this entirely on a gut instinct, and the fact that the last one changed my life drastically in what I think was a great direction, and was one of the most memorable times where I was open, happy, and completely trusting of my own abilities. Rabbit like, I was also able to sniff-out and dodge some dangerous situations in that time.

I feel that this year will provide an opening to change and focus on some of those un-Rabbity qualities, like my temper, that would be better left behind. While my impatience and force on issues sometimes gets the job done, this year I’ll focus on negotiation and graciousness.

The Rabbit is also the symbol of the Moon, and in Tarot, the Moon is a sign to work inward and walk a path that is sometimes in darkness. But you’re a rabbit! You live underground, and that darkness is a place to catch your breath and calm your nerves. This is the year to create a safe, peaceful lifestyle, creating a space for you to be able to calmly deal with any problem that may arise. One secret to keeping serene in a frantic world is to pay attention to when you need to retreat into your burrow, and not push yourself too hard. While everyone rushes around you, remind yourself to take a deep breath, stay calm, and appreciate the beauty around you – with the serenity of knowing that it’ll all still be here tomorrow.

Financially, I need to channel some of that rabbit negotiation and financial luck, because I’m ready to move my career forward. It’s all about confidence and intuition in the Year of the Rabbit, and when mine’s on, it’s on! Though the rabbit doesn’t take risks, when you trust your intuition, your movements are sound and not risky. It’s all about being open to it, and no second guessing or shady behavior! It’s also about being a little more careful with money, staying on top of those budgets, and making wise choices – but not at the expense of generosity.

Finally, make some BABIES, people. Fertility and productivity, literal and figuratively, that’s what rabbits are all about. Whether a real baby or a giving birth to a project, your true self, or a new chapter – this is an auspicious year. The Rabbit is also in the 4th spot in the Chinese zodiac, which makes me think of the 4th house in western astrology – the Home. Cozy up in your rabbit warren, clear clutter away, create a beautiful space, and face the world serenely and calmly. Wise rabbit, wise you.

  1. I’m with you on the temper aspect. For years I thought I was a dragon until I dug a little deeper and found that the year of the dragon started 2-3 days after my birthday, making me a rabbit.
May we all move forward with new and enriching projects!

  2. I just have to ask, your post title (“Rabbit Rabbit”) does come from the tradition of saying “rabbit rabbit” first thing in the morning on the first day of the month, yes?

How do you know about it? My mom has always said it and so my brother, sister, and I are a tad fanatic about it (I’m almost 34 years old and my mom called me early this morning, when she knew I would still be asleep, to say “rabbit rabbit” to me. :-)). But I don’t know where she got it, and I’ve met almost no one else in my life who knows about it.

  3. @Kimberly In my family we say ‘White Rabbits’ as the first thing on the first of the month for good luck. No idea where it comes from either…aside from our being english

    1. Rabbits have a very rapid reproductive rate. Normal gestation is about 30 days. The average size of the litter varies but is usually between 4 and 12 babies, with larger breeds having larger litters. A kit (baby rabbit) can be weaned at about 4 to 5 weeks of age. This means in one season a single female rabbit can produce as many as 800 children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.

Muahaha. I just call it as I see it.

  4. Yeah, I’m a rabbit and I’m temperamental and also financially unlucky! I have to work my butt off to save because something will always go wrong money-wise, and if I don’t save a ton, I’d be in financial disaster.

Good luck in channeling your inner rabbit to achieve your goals! Let’s hope this is going to be an awesome year!

  5. Yowza! This really resonates with me and my current state of mind. This is also all very refreshingly inspirational, and I thank you for it! Cheers.

  6. Rabbit here. I rarely gamble, but when I do, it’s because the whole universe is yelling at me to take five dollars into the casino; I walked out with over a hundred dollars from the penny slots.

I have plenty of rabbit baby plans, even though none of them include having my own (pout). This year will be artistic and crazy awesome.
