oh excellent! umm... I used to live in the 415 and I've definitely seen umbrellas shaped like this sold inexpensively there, but I honestly can't remember where. I'm sure you know where all the most likely places are though, and probably better than I do as I haven't gone back lately!

I usually don't comment because I get quite chatty and go on all sorts of tangents and by the time I'm done, it's five hours later and I've written you a long personal essay that has little to nothing to do with the original post. the other day I caught myself including footnotes in the tradition of David Foster Wallace. so you know... I love reading blogs, and I love reading your blog, but I try to hold off on the logorrhoea - at least on weekdays, anyway. ;)

ahhh! I'm reading through your archives, and I usually don't like to comment, but... I HAVE AN UMBRELLA EXACTLY LIKE THAT IN SHAPE!! although much prettier in terms of color and pattern. ;) it is literally the favorite thing I own. my grandmother gave it to me a very long time ago. apparently she bought it in thailand for a pittance (she lives in SE asia). now, a ticket to thailand would be really expensive, but I'm thinking that maybe small asian shops might sell this kind of thing. I'm talking about the disorganized, dimly-lit grocery/knickknack stores that cater to asian immigrants and sell mostly kitchen contraptions and traditional medicines, as opposed to the tarted up gift shops that sell exotic stereotypes and Japanese candy. I don't know if you have many where you live, but if you do, you might want to check one out and see if you can't rustle up your own infinitely cheaper parasol.

lots of love.

We can definitely make lots of nesty bowls ourselves, my brother has a grape arbor for wine-making I can pillage, and my mum loves doing that sort of thing...budget budget budget! I'm trying not to look at wedding sites because they all seem to feature $100K weddings and it makes me CRAZYYYYY.
