As sacrilegious as it may be, I’m actually excited for this. I want to know more about Edie-as-a-young-girl.

Welcome to a world of tarnished sequins. Fields and fireflies at dusk. Midnight rooftop tea parties. Whirling dervish to fiddles and clarinets. Bonfires. Gold bangles. Smoky dark velvet cushioned rooms. Blankets of frost. Stars through the skeleton limbs of trees. Low fog in the morning over the bend of the river. The smell of crackling pine logs and burnt sugar. Verhext is located somewhere in the clouds & mountains between the Bay Area and Vermont.

I am excited for the parts that aren’t direct reenactments of scenes in the documentary. I felt very uncomfortable watching parts of the trailer!

Anna: I know, me too. My first reaction was that there is no point in remaking those scenes, at all – but I guess for set up, it makes sense.

Drew Barrymore has got Edie’s accent down pat, which I always thought was such a defining part of her character. She has the big domed forehead too. Good casting.
The filmakers could’ve played the movie a couple ways- a weird creepy neglect scandal, or a gushy mother-daughter bonding film. Looks like it is being done as the latter. Interesting choice but not what I watched the original film for, to be sure.

I’m kind of excited about this too–if nothing else because it’ll be interesting to see the “back story” acted out. I remember the first time I watched the documentary a few years ago; it’s been haunting me ever since! Too bad I’ll have to wait till it comes out on DVD though.
lol!

I watched that trailer the other day through my fingers for fear I would get that all over embarassed feeling but I was pleasantly surprised. Drew really nailed that accent of Edie’s! I still don’t know how I feel about them tampering with the Maysles work but I too am really interested in knowing about her younger life in NYC. Oh and the dresses, oh the dresses!

Jennifer: I know!! Some of the dresses in the trailer are exact copies of photos I have seen of Little Edie – it looks great costume-wise. Eeeee.
