we have always lived in this castle

So as my cabin continues to be built and some friends have expressed interest in coming to Vermont this summer (some for longer periods,) my new obsession is finding a cheap yet watertight old travel trailer and posting it up on my land, planting some lilacs around it, painting it red with tiny hearts, like this hand pump from flickr ~

Speaking of, putting a hand pump and a well up at the spring, building a grill over the big firepit next to the picnic table, wood fired hot tub? Hole up all summer with the fireflies and hemlocks, hammocks piled with cushions strung between maples. Swimming in the swimming hole, bonfires with accordions, make our own tiny town in the forest.

One day I’d like to have 5 or so tiny homes, a cabin, a yurt, a little travel trailer, a rouloutte – cozy weeks spent nesting with my friends in tangled green hills.

  1. This sounds so very wonderful! Love your blog. I hope you find a little house for this summer, it sounds like a wonderful plan. I actualy see free trailers on craigslist sometimes!

  2. This is soooooo what I dream of doing. Especially as spring arrives – I get itchy feet. I would love a tipi or yurt by a lake, a tiny wod cabin in a forest in Scotland with a woodburning stive and a gypsy caravan and horse to mosie around the quiet country lanes at a snail’s pace.

    Lovely post – thank you!
