Taking these photos made me think of the old alt.gothic.fashion “What’s in your bag?” usenet threads. Yes, I have been on the internet forever. And ever. I’m pretty sure the “What are you wearing today” threads on usenet inspired a lot of the outfit post madness on flickr these days, as well.
But, I digress before I even begin!! I need to do the whole vacation recap, but I wanted to share my insane splurge of the weekend. The hotel was near a Prada outlet, and as I have been looking for a classic-but-not-conservative alternative to a briefcase, I temporarily (I hope) lost my mind and bought this bag. I’ve been coveting Nubby‘s Miu Miu bags (she has so many! whoa!) for awhile, and though I’m not a “bow girl” so much, the bow bags really caught my eye. This one is big enough for folios, magazines, etc, and is easy to open at meetings. I hate fussing with zippers & too small bags for papers. Anyway. Outlet shops freak me the fuck out, so I must have really wanted the dang thing.
Walker mesh case with Benefit powder, various lipsticks & other sundries, clove gum, clove cigarettes, lighter, iPhone, vintage tooled leather wallet (I need a new one about that size, ideas?), vintage tiny compact, Moleskine, Sharpie pen, seeing eye glasses & case, rose tulsi toning mist.
My future mother-in-law really does give the best gifts, like this teeny vintage compact!
omg you were on alt.gothic.fashion? that board saved me from the doldroms of a day job once upon a time. that compact is delish.
haha, i KNEW someone would post that. I was “ratty” – oh dear, goth-past-outing.
Hee! I remember your fabulous online “yard sales” on agf. One of my favorite skirts is one I bought from you way back then.
That is so cute!!! & actually makes me feel good about the internet!
that is one beautiful bag!
swankswankswank. i’ve been meaning to do a bag post (on lj, anyway) since i got a new big grey satchel-y aldo bag back in january (i was mostly looking for something to carry the new dslr in, but truthfully i haven’t bought a new bag in 2-3 years? ugh). so much happiness carrying something big enough to fit MY LIFE in.
cannot wait to see vacation peektures!
ps: i almost forgot, clove cigarettes = yumm + weakness. the boy used to smoke those when we first met. that smell is forever ingrained into the happy center of my brain.
Special vacation treat! I wouldnt be able to breathe if I smoked them all the time.
beautiful bag choice. certainly not too frilly for business.
a few months after starting my new job, i dropped a couple on a billykirk steamer bag (based on the original LV designs). i do love a handbag large enough to carry a laptop computer! plus, you’ll have it pretty much forever so the lifetime cost assessment is mere pennies a week!
I totally sent a link to that bag to the Professor! The black and white stripe was sold out then, though, too. SO CUTE.
They redesigned the handbags so that they now have a top zip closure instead of a frame closure. Not as attractive, but way more convenient. I wish I could justify the purchase of one of those huge weekender bags.
Ohh, but the frame closure is so cute!!
I think the bows are good though…not too frilly or girly and the bags hold up really well. I am so hard on mine and totally overfill them with heavy stuff and they never ever break! I think I am drawn to Miu Miu because I still remember seeing their schoolgirl inspired ads in the mid 90s when I was in his school reading fashion mags through history class!
love the bows! I was looking at the zipper top one (I think you have a white one?) for agesssss, but this is closer to what I needed and not as much $$$$.
*high school
not bag related (although grrrreat bag, i so need a new one, all mine are too *small*) anyway a few photographs of my dress are on Flickr, have a look!
That bag is the goodness. I have such a hard time finding good bags! This is inspiring though – perhaps it’s time to take a peek inside mine? Oh, the horror! Crazy old lady bag, for sure.
It’s really really well made, and classic enough that hopefully it’ll just last forever. All my shabby shabby thrifted bags were making a bad impression professionally. Sad but true.
Oh my lord, I totally stalked a.g.f in the day. Absolutely in love with your bag – also suspect my husband will be hearing the ‘bad professional impression’ justification in the near future. It’s an… investment!
Alt.gothic.fashion. WOW. That is a blast from the distant past. I was on a few of those alt boards, especially the goth ones. Did you partake of SFNet or CyberDen too? Wait, you don’t have to answer that! It was toooo long ago to re-contemplate!
Those sorts of threads were always my favorite, in a strange voyeuristic sort of way.
